Two men are due to appear in a Glasgow court later today charged in connection with the death of Malin Head man Willie McKeeney.
The 57-year-old was viciously beaten in Melville Street in the Pollokshields area of the city at about 00:40 on Sunday as his partner Annmarie watched in horror from the apartment they shared on the same street.
William died from his injuries after being taken to the Victoria Infirmary.
Strathclyde Police said two men, aged 19 and 20, had been arrested. They are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court later today.
It follows a massive and fast-moving police investigation.
Ch Supt Andrew Bates said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community in Pollokshields for their assistance and support in helping officers take this investigation forward so quickly.
“I have no doubt that without this we would not have been able to make these swift arrests.
“My officers will remain in the area working with elected members and the wider local community to provide public reassurance and ongoing support.”
Mr McKeeney was a labourer and former lorry drive who had been living in Glasgow for the past five years.
His devastated family in Malin Head are hoping to make funeral arrangements soon.
