Successful Year at Portsalon Golf Club
There was a large turnout at Portsalon Golf Club for the club’s AGM which was held on Friday night last. On calling the meeting to order the club President Wm Mc Cleary asked all the members present to observe a minutes silence in memory of all the members and friends who passed away during the year. The outgoing Captain Donal Callaghan in his review of the past year said that he wished to thank the members for appointing him to act as their Captain for 2011 an honour that he will not forget and said that at all times he strived to represent the club to the best of his ability. He said that over the year lot of work has gone into the development of the course and he said that we were indeed honoured and privileged to have the services of Paul Mc Ginley and his team. He thanked both Paul and his team for all the time spent to enhance Portsalon Golf Course.. He thanked his fellow council members for all their dedicated hard work and support to him throughout the year and assured them and the members of his continued support in the years ahead. He thanked the Greens staff under the leadership of John Shields who over the year has continued to make improvements to the course and the course continues to advance in the Golf Digest top 100 courses. He thanked the office staff of Cathal Toland, Grace Shields and Carina Mc Ginley for all their hard work and friendliness shown to both members and visitors to the club. He thanked the local press for all their coverage during the year. He congratulated everyone who contributed to the success of Portsalon Golf Club in 2011. He thanked the Lady Captain and the ladies committee for all their help and assistance. He thanked all the various team captains and team members who represented Portsalon Golf Club throughout the year. On the team front we had reached semifinals in the seniors and over 50’s and the Donegal League team who were defeated in the final. He congratulated all the other team captains who had led their teams in all other competitions during the year. He thanked Sean Mc Gettigan and his staff who looked after the needs of the golfers and provided magnificent food throughout the year. He paid a special thanks to all the clubs sponsors who without their generosity it would have been a very difficult year. He encouraged the members to support our sponsors when ever you can. He thanked his family for all her help and encouragement and wished the incoming captain and Portsalon Golf Club every success in the year ahead. He then proposed Dermott P Logue as the incoming Captain of Portsalon Golf Club for 2012. In taking up the ‘’Black Jacket’’ D P Logue thanked Donal Callaghan for all his work for Portsalon Golf Club and indeed set him a very high standard for him to follow. He said that it was indeed an honour for him to be appointed Captain of Portsalon Golf Club a club steeped in history.I his congratulations to the green staff on the course improvements it would be one of his goals to see the club advance in the Golf Digest top 100 courses in Ireland, with improvements already made since the last visit and impending changes this should advance Portsalon in the standings even further. He wished the incoming Lady Captain Noreen Mc Conigley success in this her year as captain. He wished all the members a good golfing year and encouraged all to do their part in the promotion of Portsalon Golf Club during 2012.The Captain then proposed Joe Harkin for the position as vice captain, this appointment was ratified. On the night there was one council position up for election and following a ballot Andy Boland was elected, The following officers were elected Secretary Peter Doherty, Treasurer Hugh Mc Ginley. Members should note that the membership fee structure for 2012 remains at €480, notices will be issued to all members over the next few days and prompt payment would be appreciated. Following a motion from the floor the council are to look at introducing a scaled fee structure for beginners. The club also approved Colm Duffy as an honorary member of Portsalon Golf Club.
Drive In
The Captain’s D P Logue & Noreen Mc Conigley will hold the traditional drive in on Sunday 5th February. Further details will be available next week

On Saturday last the club staged the Portsalon Winter Links and the results were as follows; Nett Result: Winner:Patrick Mc Devitt (15) P/S 40 points Runner Up: Philip Durning (7) P/S 38 points Third: Bryan Margey (8) L/K 36 points BOT Fourth: Paddy Sheridan (8) P/S 35 points In the Gross: Winner: Stephen Connolly (5) P/S 38 points Runner Up: Eamonn Mc Dermott (3) P/S 32 points Third: Connor Connolly (4) P/S 31 BOT Fourth: John G. Mc Bride (0) 31 points. The CSS on Saturday was 34 points
Results
What a way to start your new term as captain of your golf club, Captain D P Logue elected on Friday night , was the overall winner of the members competition staged on Sunday last with 36 points, runner up Johnny Kelly (18) 35 points, Gross Stephen Connolly (4) 31 points 3rd Connor mc Gettigan (13) 34 points. The CSS was 34 points non counting.
Events
On Saturday 21st there is an open gents stableford competition and on Sunday 22nd a members competition and on Wednesday 25th an open 18 hole stableford event. Change to Drop Off arrangements
Members and visitors should note that you must drop off the fairways 2,7 and 9 at the nearest point of relief as this has now been designated ground under repair. Under a local rule all golf balls in the areas identified must be lifted and dropped without penalty. It is no longer permitted to use the putter inside the areas identified.
All members are kindly asked to keep all pull trolleys, electric trolleys and drive buggies outside the lines surrounding the putting greens. This is try to protect the main playing surfaces as much as possible over the next few weeks..
Placing
All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
