Cllr Murray said: “At the County Development Plan meeting in Lifford, I proposed that the draft plan include a policy which would promote the inclusion of The Inishowen 100 and Malin Head in The Wild Atlantic Drive.
“The proposed scenic drive in the West of Ireland currently ends at Sliabh Liag in South Donegal. However, I feel that North and West Donegal should not be left out of this initiative.
“Inishowen has much to offer potential visitors from America and Europe as we have picturesque beaches and coastal views which can rival any across the globe.
“It is only natural that The Wild Atlantic Drive would continue through West Donegal, across Fanad before sweeping around Inishowen and finishing in Derry.
“This would make the Donegal section of the route, one of the longest in the drive and would benefit restaurants, businesses and hotels across the county.”
Cllr Murray concluded by stating that he was optimistic that the inclusion of such a policy in the County Development Plan would help secure the extension of the tourism route through Inishowen.
The County Development Plan will go to public consultation in the coming days and is due to be accepted in June.
