SLIGO-BASED Connacht Gold has been give the go-ahead to buy Donegal Creameries milk and retail stores businesses.
The takeover – first revealed on donegaldaily.com – was passed by the Competition Authority.
The authority said it had taken account of the views of customers of both entities as well as the views of the Irish Farmers Association about the competitive impact of the acquisition on farmers in the northwest.
Connacht Gold confirmed the €21 million deal on October 31st – several weeks after we revealed talks.
Donegal Creameries will now focus on its seed potato and niche dairy products division It also has an animal feed business and property portfoilio.
