Dubbed the greatest show on earth, it appears we could be in for an incredible light show in the coming weeks.
The picture was taken by Carndonagh snapper Mark Nolan and shows the northern lights off Pollan Beach in Inishowen.
“The excitement I felt when I arrived on the beach and saw the photos on the camera display cannot be described,” said the father of three.
The picture was taken last year.
The stunning solar phenomena is expected to be visible over Irish skies in the coming weeks. Stargazers will have the best chance of spotting the celestial light show in more than a decade this year thanks to a peak in the sun’s activity.
The Met Office, is advising anyone who is out looking tonight and the next few nights that the moon may interfere with the light show.
