MET Eireann has warned that a massive storm is on its way to Donegal overnight tonight and tomorrow.
“It will be a severe storm force gale with potential for damage,” warned a spokesman.
Temperatures will also plummet down to 2C bringing a cold blast of winter to all areas with snow and sleet on higher ground.
“It will be stormy in places tomorrow Wednesday, with strong to gale force westerly winds. Damaging gusts of between 90 to 125km/h are expected,” said Met Eireann.
The storm force gales come after a windy Christmas weekend with very mild temperatures.
The cold blast however is expected to last just 36 hours before warmer tropical air on the way brings thunder storms on Thursday. By Friday temperatures will rise again to around 12C.
Meanwhile a local man injured in a storm-related incident in Downings on Monday remains in a serious condition in Letterkenny General Hospital.
Patrick McGeever, from Carrigart, was helping to unload a crab boat at the pier when a gust of wind blew the door off a lorry, hitting him and sending him onto the deck of the boat 40ft below.
He was airlifted to hospital with serious head and body injuries.
