DOZENS of children and adults in the county have been hit by the winter vomiting bug which is sweeping other parts of the country.
There have been reported outbreaks in Galway and Dublin in recent weeks.
But dozens of families here in Co Donegal have also suffered at the hands of the merciless illness.
As the name suggests, it has horrible symptoms.
And it can last for up to a week and can be dangerous for the very young and the elderly.
Doctors are advising families hit by the illness to contact their local GP immediately.
There are fears that it could spread, though the closure of schools for the next two weeks may help to contain it.
The father of one nine-year-old Letterkenny girl who had the illness contacted donegaldaily.com to say: “I’m just annoyed that there has been no public health warning from the HSE.
“My daughter was very ill for five days and it was only afterwards that she told us that some of her classmates at school had also been very ill in recent weeks.
“Surely in this day and age, there should be some announcement so that people are aware of it and I thought the best way to get the message out was to at least tell donegaldaily about it.”
Hospitals in Galway and Dublin have placed visiting restrictions in recent days.
No-one from the HSE was available for comment last night.
