A capacity crowd attended a major showcase of Donegal design and craft work over the weekend in Rathmullan House.
Hosted by the Donegal Designer Makers the “Visual Feast” exhibition showcased the work of the county’s leading designers and artisan craft workers.
The work of more than 15 artists, designers and craftspeople was on display and included works in ceramics, jewellery, textiles, woodwork, knitwear and furniture. The exhibition was sponsored by Donegal County Enterprise Board.
During the 3 day exhibition visitors and shoppers were able to explore the walled garden and sample afternoon tea and canopés in front of a log fire in the sumptuous surroundings of Rathmullan House which is celebrating 50 years in business this year.
On Saturday, in the Gallery Kitchen, there was a seasonal cookery demonstration at lunchtime with complimentary beer and wine tastings from Rick Le Vert, Kinnegar Brewery and Richard Finney, the Wine Buff, Letterkenny.
“The ‘Visual Feast’ exhibition concludes a very successful year for the Donegal Designer Makers in the Year of Craft 2011” , says Hannah McGuinness, jewellery designer and Chairperson of the design network.
“This exhibition together with our previous 6 week ‘Snapshots’ exhibition during the summer has generated excitement and awareness of the quality of design in the county.
With more of our members participating in the National Crafts Fair and in exhibitions further afield we look forward to raising the profile of Donegal design even further in 2012”.
