That’s stronger than the winds which hit the county after ex-Hurricane Katia landed earlier this year.
Met Eireann issued a strong gale weather warning, with “significant accumulations of snow” due at the weekend.
“Wet and extremely windy weather will develop later in the night,” said the forecaster. “Strong to gale force southwest winds are expected, with gusts in excess of 90 to 110 km/h before dawn, strongest in the North and Northwest. Lowest temperatures early in the night at 1 to 5.”
But it gets worse tomorrow with Met Eireann saying: “It will be extremely windy tomorrow Thursday with stormy conditions in the North. Gale force Westerly winds will gust 100 to 135 km/hr strongest along the North coast with the winds then moderating during the afternoon and evening. It will turn much colder later.”
Earlier the BBC predicted that cold air tomorrow night would see a serious snowfall. Met Eireann says that more serious snow will arrive on Saturday night predicting “significant accumulations.”
