UPDATED: THREE fire tenders and several Gardai have cordoned off a garage in Gaoth Dobhair after a fire – and will remain there overnight.
Experts fear gas cylinders inside the premises in the townland of Glasagh could expode.
We understand a blaze began when welding equipment caught fire at the premises near a local shop.
The road between Teach Jack’s pub and Bloody Foreland is still closed while experts examine the scene. It could be lunchtime tomorrow before the road re-opens – causing long diversions for parents taking children to and from schools in the area.
One neighbour told us: “It appears that welding equipment caught fire.
“Thankfully no-one has been hurt and the fire is under control but there would be gas cylinders on the premises and there is a danger they could explode.”
The area could be sealed off for some time while experts continue their examination of the scene.
