The 77-year-old mum of eight – and granny to 28 – is pictured holding the real thing and then joked: “It’s a bit bigger than a bingo win, isn’t it?#8221;
The Redcastle woman said her biggest win on anything up until now was £600 on the bingo in Derry.
She told us: “I’m over the moon. It really hasn’t sunk in yet even after seeing that cheque. It’s a lot of mone
“But I have a big family and I’m looking forward to looking after them.”
She revealed that she called her daughter Eileen on Saturday night to double check her numbers.
“I just didn’t believe it at first so I rang Eileen and she confirmed the numbers and came right over to the house,” said Kathleen.
“I’m off to Dublin now to collect the cheque. It is fantastic. But I’m looking forward to coming home again.”
Kathleen’s lotto win didn’t stop her heading to bingo at the weekend.
“I enjoy the craic,” she laughed.
A total of eight members of the McLaughlin family from Carrickmaquigley, Redcastle, Co. Donegal, made the long journey from Moville to Dublin this morning to collect their win. Because of the length of the journey, Kathleen’s husband, Robert, stayed in Donegal.
As well as herself and her husband, Kathleen’s four daughters and three sons are members of the family’s Lotto syndicate and they take it in turns to purchase their Lotto ticket.
Last Friday, it was Kathleen’s turn and she purchased the €4 Quickpick ticket which resulted in the jackpot heading to Donegal for Christmas 2011. The lucky ticket was sold in Farren’s Ice Cream Company Ltd.,7 Main Street, Moville, Co. Donegal. The lucky agent is Denis Foynes and it is the first time that his store has sold a Lotto jackpot winning ticket.
€2,642,046 will now be shared NINE ways – given each family member €293,560,667 EACH!
