SKY News reported snow for Donegal two days ago – and tonight Met Eireann said there would be between 2cm and 5cm of snow tonight…with more snow throughout the week.
Monday will see further snow showers…and biting gale force winds.
There were some scattered snow flurries this afternoon with slush on the back of Errigal Road and at the aptly-named Whitecastle (pictured right) on the shore of Lough Foyle.
Met Eireann is predicting snow showers off and on right through until Thursday.
Gardai are warning motorists tonight to slow down on roads affected by heaving hail showers or minor snow falls.
“This can cause cars to skid and wet conditions like this does cause problems,” said a spokesman
However before you go off and cancel anything, the snowfalls won’t cause the massive disruption Donegal saw last year.
Well, not yet anyway….or as far as we know. Met Eireann says it is impossible to say beyond seven to 10 days what sort of weather we can see in Donegal this December.
Paddy Power tonight slashed the odds on a white Christmas to 4/1.
TONIGHT’S WEATHER: Cold and windy tonight. Showers will continue, mainly over Ulster, Connacht and west Munster, but some will extend further east. They’ll be wintry on high ground, falling as sleet or snow, especially in north Connacht and Ulster where some snow flurries are possible at lower levels also. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees with fresh to strong west to northwest winds. Frost and icy patches possible in areas sheltered from the wind.
