WITH more drastic cuts to health services, increased taxes (including big increases in road tax) hundreds of people are expected to travel from all over the county today for a public protest in Buncrana.
Local TD Padraig MacLochlainn will address the meeting but local councillor Mary Kelly says the protest isn’t confined to supporters of Sinn Fein.
“It’s time for all the people of Inishowen to make a stand and show the government how we feel about the upcoming budget cuts and charges that affect us all.
“The government is planning a budget which will be even more severe than those published by the last administration. At a time when so many people face extreme financial difficulty, the thought of further cuts has caused great apprehension among the Irish public.
“Septic tank charges, household charges and the USC along with cuts to social welfare, family allowance and students grants are more than people can take. Enough is enough.
“I would ask anyone who is fed up with government policy targeting those who can least afford it to come out and join us on Saturday 3rd. This protest is not confined to Sinn Féin activists and is open to the wider public.”
The meeting will take place at Market Square at 3pm.
