MET Eireann in the south and the BBC in the North have tonight issued an urgent weather alert for torrential rain causing floods.
The whole county is being hit by heavy rain this evening and it is expected to last for several hours.
Donegaldaily.com has already been told of flooding on roads around Letterkenny, Moville, Gaoth Dobhair, Burt and Donegal Town.
The road at Lurgybrack is particularly bad.
And there were long tailbacks at the Dry Arch Roundabout in Letterkenny as flood waters rose.
Gardai were forced to divert traffic away from the area.
There are also reports of mudslides at Drumoghill on the main Lifford Road.
Tonight’s downpour was being accompanied by strong gale force winds at times.
Gardai and AA Ireland have warned motorists to slow down on the roads overnight.
Tonight’s torrential rain comes as the BBC is warning of snow on higher ground over Co Donegal tomorrow night.
AccuWeather and other weather sites however say we could see snow next week.
