DONEGAL all-round athlete Sinead Jennings may make the Olympics after all…back rowing for Ireland.
The Letterkenny woman was heart-broken earlier this month when a bid to qualify for London 2012 was crushed when a tyre burst in a team-mate’s bike during a race in Kazakhstan.
As rowers gather in Newry this weekend for trials, Sinead has been forced to miss out – this time because of injury.
But the trials process continues with an assessment in February and the national trial in April, and Jennings hopes she may still be able to take part.
It would be a massive boost for her – and the county.
Ireland could form two women’s crews for the Olympic qualifiers in May in Lucerne, with Sinead in one of the boats!
After failing in her bid for London on two wheels, Sinead told donegaldaily.com: “It was very disappointing. It’s good to know we gave it everything though and so no regrets.
“I really appreciate all the Donegal support and good wishes. It makes such a difference.”
Sinead is pictured above winning a world silver.
