A masked gang threatened to shoot a one year old baby as they held a family at gunpoint during a robbery.
Terrified Co Donegal businessman Kevin Doherty revealed how the gang arrived at his home in Bridgend at 7.30pm on Sunday evening last.
They tied the family up and led Kevin around the house with a gun in his back looking for cash.
“They said to me ‘You know why we’re here’. I thought it was a case of mistaken identity and that I was a drug dealer.
“They took me around the house including the attic looking for cash.
“They must have thought I had a lot of money in the house but I didn’t. They got some money but not a lot.
“They didn’t care about my wife and baby. In fact I think they were glad they were there because it frightened me more,” he said.
Kevin, 36, was then told to lie in his own Saab car and told to wait until the gang had gone.
However the gang had removed the key and Kevin was called to force to a nearby house to raise the alarm.
Kevin, whose family own a number of businesses in Derry, was told if he went to the Gardai that all his family would be shot dead.
He kept the ordeal to himself for a number of days but has now finally broken his silence.
“Now I have decided that I don’t care and I want to tell everyone so these people are caught,” he said.
The gang got away with £6,000 in cash and a quantity of cash.
This is the third time Kevin’s family has been threatened.
Gardai in Buncrana have launched a full investigation into the incident.
