The forecasters issued a weather warning earlier predicting: “Southerly gales will develop later tonight on coasts from Mizen Head to Erris Head to Malin Head, and on all remaining Irish coasts and the Irish Sea on Thursday.
“Southerly winds will occasional reach strong gale force on Thursday between Valentia and Bloody Foreland.”
RTE, BBC and Sky are all reporting that there will be very windy tomorrow “Gusts will reach 70 to 100 km/h, strongest over exposed parts of the west and northwest,” said RTE this evening.
The worst of the winds will begin at dawn and continue throughout the day.
Most places will start off dry with just some drizzle along western coasts. However persistent and sometimes heavy rain will move into Donegal during the afternoon.
AA Roadwatch and gardai are appealing to motorists out on the roads tonight and tomorrow to take care, especially with the heavy downpours predicted for tomorrow afternoon.
