HUNDREDS of Donegal fans of the X Factor are set to travel to Omagh tonight to see X Factor star Janet Devlin return home to turn on the town’s Christmas lights.
The teenage singing sensation will sing for thousands of people in the centre of the Tyrone town this evening.
Letterkenny-based fan Janet Doherty told us: “There’s a pile of is going over to see her. She’s a real star and this will be a great chance to see her.”
Janet – from Gortin – is a regular visitor to Donegal, spending summers at the beaches around Inishowen with her family.
The teenager will be followed home to Gortin and on to Omagh this evening by a TV crew from ITV for a special package to be shown on this Saturday’s show.
Tonight’s event is free and police in the North are warning of traffic delays on the main Donegal-Dublin road.
“Everyone has been talking that Janet would be coming to switch on the lights, but a lot of us didn’t believe that she would be able to find the time after going through to the final five of the X Factor ,” said local councillor Patrick McGowan.
“She had done the North West proud.”
The Christmas lights switch-on in Omagh is expected to start at 6.30pm with a programme of music and entertainment at the courthouse.
Janet will be joined by local band the Hootenannys, and previous X Factor contestant Eoghan Quigg from Dungiven with Santa set to arrive shortly before 7pm.
According to Boylesports bookmakers, Janet Devlin – at 4/1 – is still the best backed contestant to win the X Factor.
