The Donegal men eventually ran out 2-10 to 0-13 winners in a great game at the Morgan Athletic grounds in Armagh.
All-Ireland Lory Meagher winner Niall Campbell fired the Donegal men in front and Ronan McDermott and Kieran Boyle added to the tally in a tight start which saw the Antrim men pull four back in return.
Campbell then set up McDermott for the first goal of the game just before half-time but any thoughts of pushing further ahead were quickly forgotten when Ardal McDermott was shown a straight red for dangerous play – leaving the Burt men ahead 1-6 to 0-7 at half-time but with one less player.
Needless to say the Antrim side hit a couple of quick points at the re-start and began to use the extra man to their advantage.
But just as it seemed they would push on for the Ulster title, brilliant work by Ronan McDermott saw the Burt men add another goal to their tally.
Creggan keeper Stephen Colgan was attempting to clear the slitter when McDermott got in a block and somehow it trickled over the line.
It gave the Donegal side a huge lift and McDermott and Campbell added more points to seal victory.
Burt has a proud history in hurling going back more than a century – and today’s victory adds once again to that.
There was a good crowd for the game and the Burt team and their supporters can now pack their bags for the next game – a clash in Manchester with British champions Fullen Gaels!
