There has been a huge outpouring of grief following the tragic death of popular Termon man Danny Gallagher.
Mr.Gallagher, 48, died when a tree fell on him while he was clearing an area close to his home in Doon Well yesterday just before 1pm.
Donegaldaily.com understands that the well-known ESB employee’s brother was helping him with the clearing when the freak accident happened.
Mr Gallagher’s brother tried to help but it is understood that the victim may have died at the scene.
The emergency services including NowDoc rushed to the scene but it was too late.
Mr Gallagher was a married father-of-five and was very popular in the local community. His children are aged between two and 19.
It is understood that a post-mortem on the victim will not take place until tomorrow (MON) at Letterkenny General Hospital.
There were dozens of callers to the family’s two storey house in Termon yesterday as people called to pay their respects to a man held in high esteem by all.
One local said “People are finding this very hard to take. Danny was a rock in this community and he has been taken from his family and from us so quickly.
“His family are devastated and everyone is trying their best to rally around him but everyone is just at a loss for words.”
A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is expected to be carried out.
A spokesman for Milford Gardai said they are treating the matter as a tragic accident.
