BUNDORAN Town Council was within its rights to hold a meeting in committee – in other words excluding the public – yesterday, donegaldaily.com understands.
The council went into committee when a member of the public – Patricia McCafferty – refused to sign a certain undertaking.
She has made a complaint to gardai about the matter today.
But sources told donegaldaily.com that the Council acted within the law and “does not have a case to answer.”
One insider told us: “We are not sure of the nature of Ms McCafferty’s complaint to gardai but the council acted on proper legal advice.”
The row has been ongoing for some time.
Council members have objected in the past to Ms McCafferty’s interruptions of council meetings.
They had asked her to work within local government rules on future matters but she has refused to given a written undertaking to the authority.
Town Manager Gerry Martin said today that he hoped December’s meeting will be held in public.
