A judge has pleaded with people to turn up in court so he can help them save their homes from the banks.
Judge John O’Hagan said he wants to help people keep their family homes but said he couldn’t help them unless they turned up in court.
Judge O’Hagan told Letterkenny Circuit Court today that he wanted to do all he could to help families during the present economic climate.
He was speaking has he dealt with a case brought by Irish Nationwide against a man who did not turn up in court.
Judge O’Hagan said he would view any attempt to re-possess a family home very seriously.
However he said “I know that people in cases like this are inclined to put their head in the sand. If people do that I can do nothing for them.
“I won’t make orders against them if they come in to see me, but if they don’t, there is nothing I can do.”
The Judge said he would make distinctions between family homes occupied by parents with children and investment properties.
“People must face up to the problems they have. They need to come in here to see me.”
In two other cases the judge ordered the re-possession of two properties belonging to a man from Buncrana.
The owner did not appear in court and a barrister representing Irish Life and Permanent told the court that they believed the man had emigrated to Australia.
