Traders and shoppers were left shocked today when Letterkenny Town Council put up their Christmas lights – even before Halloween!
Three workmen using a cherry-picker began erecting the lights this morning on the town’s Main Street.
Shocked passers-by remarked about the move which comes more than two months before Christmas.
Although the lights are being erected, they will not be officially turned on until late November.
Traders in Letterkenny and across Donegal are hoping the festive season will spark a spending splurge for struggling businesses.
Well-known newsagent Paddy Delap of Clarke’s Newsagent on the town’s Main Street said he wasn’t surprised to see the lights going up.
“They’re probably putting them up now while they get a chance.
“The forecast for December is horrific so they probably won’t get a chance to get them up again.
“It is very early but I suppose we can always call them Halloween lights for now,” he laughed.
