Volunteering in the Community Programme:
Are you aged 18-25 and unemployed? Would you like to learn new skills, gain accredited qualifications, meet new people, get involved in your local community and take part in fun activities?
If you are interested, why not join Donegal Local Development Company Limited’s new free 12 week programme which will be starting in Raphoe Family Resource Centre on Tuesday 1st November 2012. The Volunteering in the Community Programme which runs daily from Monday to Friday from 10am-2pm will provide participants with the opportunity to have fun learn new or enhance existing skills through activities such as cookery, outdoor pursuits, day trips and television production.
They can also avail of accredited training such as First Aid and Computers, have the opportunity to become involved in their local community through volunteering and participate in An Gaisce-the President’s Award.
The Volunteering in the Community Programme is funded by the International Fund for Ireland.

FATHER FRIENDLY WORKSHOP
A father friendly workshop will take place in Raphoe Family Resource Centre on Monday 17th October at 7.30 p.m. The Workshop will be relaxed and enjoyable using a mix discussion and information. It is opened to anyone, who wants to be part of making Raphoe Family Resource Centre of Community groups more Father friendly.
The aim of this workshop is to help the users, staff and Management of the Raphoe Family Resource Centre to further develop a Father Friendly and inclusive environment. Many men are now involved in Fathering; Grandfathers, Stepfathers, new partners and Fathers themselves.
During the workshop we will look at:
The value of fathers and fathering in children’s lives and development
Understanding fathers experiences in relation parenting

IRISH CANCER SOCIETY RUN/WALK SUNDAY 23RD OCTOBER
This year Irish Cancer Society are not organising The Terry Fox Walk/Run Anne Kelly local organiser thanks sincerely the many people who supported the Terry Fox Walk over the last 18 years. New named walk “Run Walk & Roll” taking same route takes place on Sunday 23rd October at 3.00 p.m. from Mart Car park Raphoe to Ballinalecky crossroads return car park. Children under 11 years and children on bicycles must be accompanied by an adult. This is walk for all the family no competition involved walk run or jog please come along support a worthy cause sponsorship cards available or give donation on day. HEALTHY WALKS

THE STRENGTHENING VOICES PROJECT
Are you or someone you know experiencing depression, anxiety or emotional difficulties because of bereavement, loss, separation, relationship breakdown or due to financial worries or hardship? Would you benefit from being with others to meet in a safe and confidential environment to give and receive practical and emotional support?
Then THE STRENGTHENING VOICES PROJECT could be for you.

COMMUNITY GARDENING
Raphoe Family Resource Centre has had many queries from members of the community around organising an accredited community gardening course. We are hoping to run this course in Feb/ Mar 2012. The programme will approximately last for 10 weeks and will cover topics such as soil preparation, planting seeds, planting out, sowing indoors and pest control in the garden. This person-centred service is for those experiencing Bereavement/Loss, Separation, Abuse, Mental Health Difficulties and issues around sexuality. The service operates on an appointment basis only.

RAPHOE TIDY TOWNS TOY APPEAL 2011
It’s that time of year again when we are seeking your help if possible for our Annual Toy Appeal in association with the local St Vincent de Paul. These Toys will be distributed in our own county and locality to deserving children by the St Vincent de Paul in time for Christmas. Your kindness in past years has brought a lot of happiness and love to a child or children here in Donegal and this has been very much appreciated by all concerned especially the children. RAPHOE BOXING CLUB
On Sunday last Raphoe’s light-weight kingpin Ballindrait based Denis Lafferty put on a great display of ring craft only to lose out to Cardonagh’s Michael Donaghy by 7 pts. – 5pts. In the final of the Donegal Novice Championships staged in the Finn Valley Centre. On Sunday next 16th October the Raphoe Club will have five boxers competing in the Donegal Open Championships in the Valley Centre, Jade Crossan, Gerald Mc Granaghan, Christy Stokes, Denis Lafferty and Patrick Stokes and everyone at the club extend best wishes for every success
On Monday 31st October local athlete Charlie Page will run the Dublin City Marathon and all sponsorship from Charlie’s run will go to the local Boxing Club of which Charlie is a member. All club members have a sponsor card and the Boxing Club will be most grateful for all donations and wish Charlie every success with his Marathon run.
The Raphoe Club annual boxing tournament will take place on Friday 4th November in the Cathedral Hall, Raphoe. When a star-studded Raphoe select will come up against the Ulster All-stars with no fewer than nine Raphoe boxers in action on the night and a special thanks goes out to all the generous sponsors and Ronnie Goudie of the Cathedral Hall Committee.
Local long distance runner Charlie Page will compete in the Dublin City Marathon on Monday 31st October and all sponsorship for Charlie’s run will go towards the boxing club of which Charlie is a member.
