It will be a busy time for the club this weekend with six teams taking to the field. In the National Cup Competition, both the Under 16’s and the Youth team have away fixtures. The 16’s travel to Inishowen to take on Cockhill Celtic and Anthony Gorman’s Youth’s take on Ballyheane FC of Castlebar. Both games are on Saturday.
In the Letterkenny and District Schoolboys League last weekend the U-12s got beat by Dunfanaghy, the U-14s lost to Milford United, the Crusaders got beat by Ballyraine and the U-16s defeated Illistrin.
This week the U12s are away to Glencar, the 14s have home advantage over Dunfanaghy and Crusader have a local derby against neighbours Bonagee Tigers away from home.
Our reserves finished their campaign with defeat at the hands of Drumkeen United in the final of the league Cup. The game finished 5-1 with Mark Harkin scoring for the Rovers. It’s been a good season for Gaga and the lads who finished the season with the DPD Division One League Trophy.
The first team played Bonagee United in the Ulster Senior League last Sunday. The game finished 3-1 in favour of the Rovers. Goalscorers were Kieran McPherson, Josh Mailey and Darren McElwaine. This Sunday they host Kildrum Tigers at Leckview Park.
Congratulations to Agnes Morrissey from Willowbrook, Letterkenny who won our Lotto Jackpot last week. Agnes matched the 4 numbers drawn and won €5,000. In this weeks lotto the numbers drawn were 8,19,21 and 23. Michael Kyle, Mary Hunter and Joe Sweeneny won €25 each. Next week’s jackpot is €1,025.
Well done to Dale Gorman a member of our U-16 team who played for Northern Ireland against England in the U-16 Victory Shield last Tuesday night. The game was live on SkySports and he has games coming up in the next few weeks against Poland and Scotland to look forward to. Also on International duty at the moment is Ryan McConnell. Ryan is with the Republic U17s who are in Kazakhstan with games against Liechtenstein, Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic on the agenda in the next week.
Finally, best of luck to U-16’s manager Paul Browne. Paul is unable to take charge of his team this weekend in Cockhill as he has the small matter of tying the knot to his sweetheart Aisling Connolly in Arranmore Island this Saturday.
