Metal thieves have struck again – this time stripping more than a dozen houses of wiring and even boilers.
The thieves struck at a recently-built housing estate in Dungloe last weekend.
The daring thieves took the boilers, valued at almost €10,000, from unoccupied homes, but left houses which were occupied.
A total of 13 houses were stripped in the highly organised operation.
The cheeky thieves even stripped the doors off kitchen units to transport the boilers across a boggy field beside the housing estate and into a waiting getaway van.
This is the latest operation by gangs stealing and selling valuable copper and other wiring from across Donegal.
As well as manhole covers and even cars, thieves have cut down long stretches of telegraph wire for its copper content.
A Garda spokesman said this is the latest raid aimed at getting metal for sale.
“Metal is now a valuable resource and people are prepared to go to great lengths in the current economic climate.
“We would ask anybody who saw people acting suspiciously around this housing estate to contact us,” he said.
