More than a decade after parking tickets were first introduced to Letterkenny, the first court cases for non-payment of fines have come before the local District Court.
Four people appeared before the courts yesterday (MON) facing fines for not paying parking ticket summonses.
Three of those who appeared were fined €100 each and were ordered to pay a further €133 in costs.
A fourth person was fined €50 and also ordered to pay €133.
A raft of further fines are due to come before the courts in the coming weeks and months.
In recent months the council has taken on a number of additional traffic wardens.
And a source at Letterkenny Town Council said they are very serious about continuing to clamp down on illegal parkers.
“A number if fines will be coming before the courts in the near future.
“We want the message to go out that people must pay to park in designate areas in Letterkenny.
“People who continue to ignore pay and display will receive a ticket and if they do not pay that fine, they will come before the courts,” said the council source.
