RTE barely mentioned it in its forecast on Sunday night.
But the UK Met Office and a host of other weather sources have issued weather warnings for late Wednesday and Thursday.
A spokesman for irishweatheronline however said the worst of the storm will not be as strong as ex-Hurricane Katia which hit the county last month.
“On Wednesday there will be showers or longer intervals of rain, from remnants of Ophelia passing north of Donegal. Lows near 7 C and highs near 15 C,” he added.
Hurricane Ophelia became a category 4 storm on Sunday night, upgraded from a category 3 force.
It has caused havoc in the Dominican Republic with winds of 135 miles per hour.
Temperatures here, which have been warm in recent days, will drop away again this Thursday.
