HE’S been at the centre of athletics in the county for decades – now Patsy McGonagle has been honoured as the new track at Finn Valley Athletics Club has been named after him.
A crowd of some 500 turned out for the occasion and heard how the club had developed from humble beginnings in 1971 operating out of Mac Cumhaill Pk to buying a derelict factory to what it is today with further plans to add a swimming pool on site.
The track opening was named in honour of Patsy Mc Gonagle – with the official opening performed by long time club stalwarts Patsy Mc Ginley and Peader Mc Granaghan.
