THEY’RE the real night riders…the Donegal Mountain Bike Club members who plan to hit the trails of Gartan and Glenveagh this Friday night.
So if anyone spots strange lights in the hills of Donegal this weekend, don’t worry – it won’t be UFOs!
And they’re hoping new members will come along to see what all the fuss and fun is about.
Paul Nash from the Donegal Mountain Bike Club said members had just taken possession of sophisticated new bike lights which will make their journey from Gartan through Glenveagh in the pitch black this Friday much easier.
“I suppose with all the lights bopping about the place, some locals may think a UFO has landed,” said the 35-year-old.
“With the darker evenings upon us, we still want to head out into the countryside after work so we’ve decided to do some night-time biking.
“We will be staying off the main roads and taking to country paths around Gartan and Glenveagh.
“We ordered hi-tech bike lights which will give us great visibility, especially in the darkness of the countryside.
“We’d be delighted to see new members come along and enjoy night mountain biking.”
The software developer at Letterkenny company Pramerica insisted amateurs are welcome.
“We’ll be taking it fairly easy on Friday night but most importantly we will be sticking together for safety reasons. We don’t want to be losing anyone up there!” he added.
The club is meeting at the boathouse at Gartan this Friday at 7.30pm and new members are welcome.
