A young doctor has been taken off the critical list at Letterkenny General Hospital after he was involved in a car crash yesterday.
The doctor, named locally at JP Kennedy who is originally from Tipperary was involved in a single vehicle collision happened just after 9.30am close to the An Cuairt Hotel at Meenacuing, Gaoth Dobhair.
The accident occurred on a notorious stretch of the N56 road which claimed the lives of a mother and daughter two years ago when a speeding motorist lost control of his car.
It is believed Dr Kennedy, who is based in Dungloe, was travelling there at the time.
It is still not known what caused the crash but the car, understood to be a Toyota Avensis, flipped over onto its roof.
The car came to rest along a picnic area after it has struck a wall.
It is unclear if his injuries are life-threatening but ambulance personnel and the fire service spent a long time at the scene.
The young medic was then taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.
The road on which the accident happened was close for a number of hours while Garda forensic officers carry out their investigation.
