A GARDA specialising in missing persons will today co-ordinate the renewed search for missing American tourist Kelly Jones.
The Georgia woman, 41, had spent ten days in Glencolmcille before going missing last Saturday.
Extensive searches yesterday failed to find her, but a new search began at dawn today, starting at the Malinmore Adventure Centre hostel just outside the village.
Garda John McGrory, a member of the Donegal Mountain Rescue team, will lead today’s search.
“We will try to re-trace Kelly’s steps,” said co-ordinator Brian Murray.
“We will keep searching until we find her. We are being joined in today’s search by mountain rescue teams from Sligo and Leitrim.”
Yesterday’s sweep around Sliabh Liag failed to find any trace of her.
Among the volunteers who took part were members of the Sliabh Liag Hill Walkers organisation.
Spokesman Patrick McBrearty told donegaldaily.com: “We have been helping the Coastguard and DMR teams wherever and whenever we can.
“We are experienced walkers and know the terrain very well and we felt we could help – even in a small way – to search for Kelly Jones.
“We understand Kelly is a keen hill walker and we want to do our bit to help to find her.
“We joined the search on Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday morning after a briefing from the Garda.
“Our volunteers will search every day until Kelly is found.”
