A young doctor is in a serious condition after a horrific car crash in Gaoth Dobhair this morning.
The single vehicle collision happened just after 9.30am close to the An Chuirt Hotel in the townland of Meenacuig on the N56.
The accident occurred on a notorious stretch of road which claimed the lives of a mother and daughter two years ago when a speeding motorist lost control of his car.
The young doctor injured in this morning’s crash is believed to be based in Dungloe and was travelling there at the time.
It is still not known what caused the crash but the car, understood to be a Toyota Avensis, flipped over onto its roof.
It is unclear if his injuries are life-threatening but ambulance personnel and the fire service spent a long time at the scene.
The young medic, who is 31 and originally from Co Tipperary, was then taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.
A new policy by the HSE means there will be no condition update on the victim made public through the media.
The road on which the accident happened is still closed while Garda forensic officers carry out their investigation.
