The Mayor of Letterkenny has said the biggest tribute the townspeople can pay the late Jim McCormick is if they keep the town tidy and hopefully in the race for Ireland’s Tidiest Town.
Mayor Gerry McMonagle was speaking following the sudden death of businessman Jim McCormick in Spain in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Mr.McCormick, the owner of Magees Chemist on Main Street, is believed to have died very suddenly from a heart attack.
Mayor McMonagle said “The work did Jim behind the scenes in trying to help Letterkenny win Ireland’s Tidiest Town will never be known.
“He put almost all of his life into his business and into the tidy towns organisation locally.
“I think it will be a fitting tribute if people go out of their way now to help Letterkenny go one step further and become the country’s tidiest town” he said.
Letterkenny was just four points behind winner Killarney in this year’s competition and many feel it is only a matter of time before the town wins the award.
Meanwhile tributes continue to flow in for the late Mr McCormick who is survived by his wife Fionnula, sons Gerard, Brian and Eoin, extended family and many, many friends.
