A youth group in Co Donegal last night (WED) put on patrols to protect Junior cert students as they celebrated the results of their exams.
The group handed out free tea, coffee, water and biscuits in a bid to reduce the risks faced by teenagers.
The Letterkenny Youth and Family Service in Co Donegal also had a free shuttlebus so that students got home safely.
Spokesman Gary Glennon said the service was the start of an eight-week pilot project aimed at reducing the risk factors for young people in Donegal’s biggest town.
“Some young people feel marginalised for one reason or another and we have been told what can go on and that is what made us do this.
“So we are reacting to what we have been told by young people and decided to go in and help.
“But we wanted to on in and help them on their terms,” he said.
The Street LK project was based at a specially-erected tent on Letterkenny’s Main Street.
