At one stage 6,000 homes were without power, though supplies have been restored to most of those now.
In the past few minutes forecasters say the winds are still substantial but are starting to subside into the evening.
There is still the potential for damage in exposed areas and it is the exposed areas of the county which are getting the worst of it.

An ESB spokesman said: “Power has been restored to all but 200 homes and we are working to fix those now. Crews will remain on standby during this period of weather.”
Ferries to Tory and Arranmore were cancelled today as was the Dublin-Carrickfin flight this morning. On Arranmore schools were closed for the day and telephone lines blown down.
The Harry Blaney Bridge over Mulroy Bay has also been closed for safety reasons.
Debris from branches has caused problems on many minor roads and at one point a trampoline blocked the Dunfanaghy to Falcarragh Road.
