Lacey has undergone keyhole surgery to his knee after picking up an injury when tackled by Barry Cahill in the Tir Chonaill County’s defeat to Dublin in last month’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
The Four Masters clubman, who this week was named Ulster Footballer of the Year, is expected to be fine to take part with the provisional Irish squad that will meet ahead of the series with Australia though, with Donegal selector Rory Gallagher optimistic of his chances.
“It’s minor enough – just a wee cleanout basically,” said Gallagher.
“There’s no big fear that it’s anything major and he’ll probably only be out for a couple of weeks. We’d be expecting him to be part of it (the Irish provisional squad).
“If everything goes according to plan, he should be back and in contention for that. It (the injury) was a direct result of that bang in the Dublin game.”
On the defeat to the Dubs at Croke Park, an honest Gallagher added: “We weren’t happy, but at the same time Dublin deserved their victory in the end.”
