Donegal’s TWO representatives in the Rose of Tralee shone at the show last night – but were beaten to the title by the Queensland Rose.
Both Maria McCole, 23, from Letterkenny, the Donegal Rose, and Grainne Boyle, 24, from Gartan, the Dubai Rose, were being hotly-tipped as possible winners of the 2011 title.
But bookies favourite Dublin-born Queensland Rose Tara Talbot (27) was crowned the 2011 Rose of Tralee last night to the consternation of bookies and the delight of a packed Dome in Tralee.
Paddy Power confirmed they stood to pay out upwards of €50,000 when the brunette secondary school teacher, who is passionate about human rights and a massive Liverpool FC fan, took the crown from last year’s winner Clare Kambamettu.
The Donegal girls did the county proud – with both being supported by family and friends on last night’s show.
Both girls had been joined by the parents, families and a host of supporters at the Kerry venue.
You did us proud girls.
Let’s make sure a Dub doesn’t win this Sunday!
