CROOKS from overseas are once again targeting people in Donegal with an internet virus scam.
Thieves ring their victims claiming to be from an internet service provider. They then claim the victim’s computer has been hit by a virus and that this can be removed remotely as long as the customer agrees to pay for the service over the phone using a debit or credit card.
Brian McGairbhigh from Techie2u.ie told donegaldaily.com: “I recieved a call from one of my customers in Dungloe. The internet virus phone scam is still on going. She received a call today from someone with an Asian accent.
“You may wish to inform your readers that people in the Dungloe area should just hang up if anyone rings saying their is a virus on their computer, as they will be ringing people in this area in the weeks and months to come.
“Some elderly people have fallen victim to this scam in the area already and have lost hundreds of euro. They are using the eircom phonebook online and asking for people by their first name to gain there confidence. Spread the word please.”
You have been warned! Again!
