It’s been a hectic week for Tori Pena as Monday in Switzerland she clears 4-40m qualifying standard for world champs in Daegu.
Then she jumps on a plane arrives Dublin Friday to defend her pole vault title won at 4-15 in 2010.
There was never any doubt as she cleared a new championship best performance of 4-20m and asked that bar be raised to 4.41 to attempt yet another new record but it was not really on and that was that.. Job done…selection confirmed….title defended and back out of Dublin Monday heading for Croatia and a period of training prior to departure for Korea . .
Towards the end of day one Teresa Mc Gloin lined up in the 5k and always in the lead group offf a slow pedestrian pace she had little difficulty retaining a medal position when the pace increased holding on for bronze her first individual senior medal on the track ever so not only was she pleased but her coach Mark Connolly and her many supporters delighted for her .Now Teresa to chase a team spot for Ireland in cross country come the winter so that begins in the weeks ahead and will be underlined at training weekend in Ballyliffin in September.
