Family waiting move
Letterkenny Town Council is awaiting a Garda report before deciding what steps to take next over a family who claim they are being harassed.
The Obi family from Ard na Ri claim they have been the victims of racist attacks which included vehicles being scraped and a garden shed being firebombed.
Turf luck
Bog owners have been warned that turf thieves are stealing turf from across the county.
IFA Development officer Davie Keith says there are reports of turf being stolen from many bogs close to roads where people are nabbing bags of turf before driving away.
Up in smoke
A Twins Towns shopowner has offered a reward after thousands of euro worth of cigarettes was stolen from her premises. The owner of Andie’s Supermarket, former county councillor Alice Bonner, said the theft was a “terrible loss” in the current economic climate.
Miss Ireland in the driving SEAT
A former butcher and trainee teacher from Creeslough is to represent car giant SEAT in the Miss Ireland contest. Roisin McConway, 19, is already a model but competes in the Miss Ireland contest on August 13th in Dublin.
Outrage over stolen car parts
A Donegal business-owner has claimed that scrap metal dealers in Northern Ireland are paying for items stolen in the south. Liam Sweeney of LS Car Repairs in Killygordon had thousands of euro worth of car parts stolen recently and found many of the parts in car scrap yards in Derry.
Lifford store to shut
One of Donegal’s oldest stores is to close after a planning battle ended in the owner going to jail for 10 days. Eamon Martin’s Souvenir Shop in Lifford is now to close after a judge ruled that an adjoining building did not have planning permission.
