Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher MEP has confirmed that Donegal County Council has invited expressions of interest from contractors to design, build and operate the Dungloe and Glenties Sewerage Schemes.
The closing date for the submission of expressions of interest is 26th August 2011. Donegal County Council will select a number of qualified contractors who will then be invited to tender for the €7 million project.
The council will award the contract to the successful tenderer by the second quarter of 2012, after which construction will begin.
He said: “These schemes will provide new wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and sewers in Dungloe and Glenties to replace the present overloaded and obsolete infrastructure. The new works will facilitate existing and future residential and commercial development in the Dungloe and Glenties areas.”
The wastewater treatment plants will enhance the local environment and protect and improve the quality of the Dungloe and Owenea rivers.
Mr Gallagher also paid tribute to Cllr David Alcorn and former Cllr Enda Bonner who played an important part in bringing the projects forward.
