Club Notes – Naomh Adhamhnáin – 06.07.11
What a busy week! Trust me to book my holidays at the right time!! Pride of place this week goes to the U-14 Boys Footballers under Ciaran Maguire who brought home our first National title when they triumphed in the Div. 3 Féile Final in Cork last week. Their picture appeared in the Irish language section of today’s Irish Independant for anyone that wants to pick that up. In the group matches they defeated Blarney, Whitechurch, St. Martin’s and Thomas Russells. In the semi final they hammered undefeated Macroom before also running out easy winners in the Final against Ahan Gaels. The lads were back in action away to MacCumhaills on Wednesday evening and ran up a big score winning by 3-20 to 0-01.
The Seniors booked their passage into the Q-Finals of this year’s Championship after a tense draw at home to Dungloe was enough to see them through to face neighbours Glenswilly. They are due to travel to Glenties this Sunday for a league match with Naomh Conaill, throw-in at 3pm.
The Reserves snatched a good victory over Dungloe in their return leg to force a play-off. They also travel to Glenties this Sunday with a 1:30pm throw-in.
The Juniors were unable to finish off Downings at home on Sunday afternoon, despite leading for most of the game, going down by 3-07 to 0-14. Like last year, goals proved their undoing and they will have to meet one more time in a play-off after their good 1st leg victory in Downings.
The U-16 Boys footballers made a very disappointing exit from the Championship on Monday night away to MacCumhaills in their Northern semi-final. This will be a big setback for the lads after reaching the League Final and brings their season to an abrupt end.
The U-12 Go Games team completed their season with yet another big win over Gaoth Dobhair, winning the Final by 6-09 to 1-05 on Monday night. The lads went undefeated through the entire section and were disappointed not to have the chance to face MacCumhaills, who topped the other section in the Final.
Our U-11’s took on MacCumhaills in Ballybofey in the Section 2 Final and went down narrowly by 5-08 to 3-10. Another great display from this team giving a year to most other teams, watch out for them next year!
The U-10 Sunday Morning Football Academy is on at the usual time this week. Arrangements for next weekend (17th Ulster Final) will be available this Sunday.
Congratulations to the 6 St Eunan’s Hurlers who have been picked to represent Donegal in Croke Park: Ryan Hilferty, Conor F. Kelly, Cian Randles, Patrick Curran, Cathal Kilcullen and Brendan O’Donnell. The U12 Hurlers are away to MacCumhaills this Thursday in the League. The U16 Hurlers play MacCumhaills at home this Thursday. The U12 Camogie team played against Burt and MacCumhaills last Friday in O’Donnell Park. Despite losing the girls performed well. There is a Camogie League Blitz next Saturday. Details at training.
U-12 Hurling training is on Tuesday at 5:30pm. U-16 & Minor training is on each Monday at 5:30pm. There will be a further U-10 Hurling blitz on 24th July. The Friday Hurling / Camogie Academy is on at 6:30pm. The next U-8 hurling blitz will be held on 10 July.
Time is running out to book for our Camps. Hurling & Camogie is 18th – 22nd July with the Football the following week, 25th – 29th July. Contact Paul McGovern (086-8114151) for bookings ASAP to ensure delivery of Giveaway pack.
There is a great night planned for next Wednesday, July 13th in the Mt. Errigal Hotel. There will be a star-studded line-up on hand for what promises to be one of the most entertaining nights for any GAA fans to be held in Letterkenny. Tickets are on sale at various outlets around the town and can also be booked by credit card from the Mt. Errigal on 074-9122700. Tickets are in big demand so book right away to ensure you don’t miss this fantastic event. Brendan Devenney will be joined by Manus Boyle, Paddy Bradley, Nudie Hughes and the fast talking Tony Scullion as they preview the upcoming Ulster Final between Donegal and Derry. Charlie Collins will act as referee / host (!) on the night and we hope there will be some argy-bargy for him to comment on!!
Sympathy is extended to the McMonagle family and the Curran family on their bereavements.
