Open Week
The Portsalon Golf Club’s open weeks activities got into full swing on Saturday last. The turnout over the past number of days has increased over the past and hopefully with an increase in the daily temperatures the numbers will continue. The results from the fisrt days play are as follows. On Saturday 2nd July gents four ball better ball sponsored by Callaghan Transport the winners were; JohnMc Fadden & Connor Mc Fadden with 47 points, 2nd Eugene Gallagher & Michael Dunne 46 points, Gross David Mc Cormick & F O’Doherty 40 points 3rd Charlie Coughlan & Liam Sweeney 42 points Visitors V Mc Daid & S Browne 40 points. On Sunday 3rd Ladies & Gents stableford sponsored by The Golf Shop the winner was Joe Henesy (14) 66 nett, 2nd Phillip Durning (8) 68 nett, gross John Shields (4) 75, 3rd Chris Williams (12) 69 , Visitor S Fuscalli 72. The CSS fro m=home members 72 visitors 73 , Monday 4th Ladies & Gents stableford sponsored by Milford Inn Hotel the winner was Fergus Callaghan (22) 39 points BOT, 2nd Connor Mc Fadden (15) 39 points Gross Shane Sandilands (7) 26 points,3rd John Sandilands (20) 39 points. Visitor S O’Sullivan Tralee 35 points. The CSS for home members 37 points visitors 33 points non counting., The open weeks golf competitions continue on Friday 8th with a Ladies &Gents stableford sponsored by Dunleaveys XL Store, Saturday 9th gents four ball betterball sponsored by B Coyle & Sons, Sunday 10th Ladies &Gents stableford sponsored by Brian Mc Cormick Sports. Golfer of the week prize is sponsored by Seamus Clinton . Members and visitors should note that all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club are on a time sheet. Team News
Senior Team
The first time in the history of Portsalon golf club the qualifying team in this seasons GUI senior event travelled to Portstewart golf club. The team failed to advance to the next round beaten by a strong Portstewart team by a slender margin. The senior team was Stephen Connolly, Connor Connolly, D P Logue, John Shields and Pascal Cullen.
Donegal Senior team
The Portsalon senior team entertained Dunfanaghy golf club in the return leg during the week. Having recorded four matches to three victories in Dunfanaghy the Kingdom team were always going to be favourites for the match. The home team emerged victorious and advance to the next round where they will meet either Ballybofey or Rosapenna. The team members were Stephen Connolly, Connor Connolly, John Shields, D P Logue, Pascal Cullen, Phillip Durning and Damian Toland.
Senior over 50’s
The Portsalon over 50’s team entertained Ballyliffen Golf club on Wednesday last for the return leg match. Having obtained two matches away at Ballylliffen the home team powered their way through to the next round. The first two matches won early and the with the final match loosing pressure was on matches three and four. The fourth match ended on seventeenth green winning two and one while match three were one up on the eighteenth green. Portsalon will now play either Ballybofey or Letterkenny in the semi final.
Minor League
The Portsalon minor league team played Cloughanelly golf club in this first leg match at Portsalon during the week and the Kingdom men under the direction of club President Wm Mc Cleary only managed to record one match against Cloughanelly’s four matches. The return leg of the match was staged on Friday evening last which was always going to be difficult to overturn the earlier result. Even the gallant effort put in the team was defeated. The President and team captain Wm Mc Cleary would like to thank all the members of the minor league team who represented Portsalon in this season’s competition.
Fixtures
The Portsalon open week continues on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday 11th Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th Portsalon golf club will stage open gents competitions. Membership
All members who are paying their fees by the instalment method should note that the third payment will be due by 30th June 2011.
Divot Bags
Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance.
