Peter Brennan and his sister Keara left New Delhi on Christmas Day 2010.
They have a huge number of relatives in south Donegal and they were joined by hundreds of others when the Brennans cycled into the Diamond last night.
They were led into the town by the Donegal Town Youth Band and Garda escort.
An added bonus was meeting Everton’s Seamie Coleman who was also in the town.
They crossed the finishing line at 7.45pm accompanied by a group of fellow cyclists who accompanied them from Bundoran.
Staff from the local Chandphur Indian restaurent (in traditional garb) treated everyone to complimentary onion baggis on the Diamond.
A few well earrned pints of stout were consumed later in the Abbey Hotel.
Said Peter: “The welcome was incredible; really nice to be back in Donegal. We had the most amazing six months of our lives and seeing the Diamond again was every bit as wonderful as everything else we have seen from Goa to Ireland.”
Sister Keara added: “It’s good to be back. We want to thank everyone in Donegal for all their support. It was an incredible end to an incredible journey.”
The cycling siblings won’t have much time to catch their breath before getting back to normal life.
Peter returns to Vancouver, Canada on Friday where is on duty this Saturday night as a nurse in one of the main hospitals while his sister Keara is on duty as a vet in Devon also, also on Saturday.
