Letterkenny 247 out in force in Athy.
In another busy weekend for the local letterkenny triathletes, a total of 16 club members made the long journey down to Kildare to compete in the TriAthy races held over the bank holiday weekend. On what is widely regarded as the fastest triathlon course in the country, there were 3 race distances in total the Sprint (750m Swim, 20k Bike, 5k Run), Olympic (1,500m Swim, 40k Bike, 10k Run) and Double Olympic (3,000m Swim, 80k Bike and 20k Run) Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club had representatives in all distances.
In the Sprint Race club member Alan Mitchell finished a fantastic 2nd
overall and 1st in his age category for the second week in a row and puts himself in a great position in the point’s race for the coming season. Margaret Kelly followed up on her great finish last week in the Liam ball event in Derry taking 1st in her age category, having looked strong through out and now seems to have gotten over her crash in limerick in the Europeans in February and Patrick Mitchell, Alan’s father also finishing strong, coming 2nd in his age category.
In the Double Olympic race club member Adam Speer finished in a great 6th
place overall and 3rd in his age category, which will stand to him in the coming weeks when he competes in his first Ironman event in Switzerland.
Many of the club athletes posted personal best’s on what was a fast course in good
weather conditions. Special mention also goes to Alan O’Mahony on completing his
first triathlon and on the Double Olympic course no less, and also Nick Fowell on completing his first open water triathlon.
