And the 35-year-old Stranorlar weightlifter is well on his way – training five days a week in a bid turn a long-held dream into reality.
His biggest fans are his wife Paulina and has two children Kate, aged 11 and five-year-old Jake.
But he’s also getting plenty of support at the Energie Gym in Letterkenny where he works…..and works out!
Said Micky: “I decided to enter into the European single lift championships. It has been an ambition of mine and I’m training so hard because I just don’t want to go to make up the numbers.
“I’d love to go and get into the top five.”
Micky will have to lift between 155-160 kilos to win when the event takes place in Estonia in September.
And he says it’s great to have Energie as an employer, sponsor – and training centre!
“They’ve been superb,” said the Stranorlar dad.
“The top class equipment here at the gym in Letterkenny is the best available.
“I use it in my spare time….I suppose no-one can ever accuse me of slacking around the place!”
The owner of Energie (and Micky’s boss) Donal Mc Nair and all the staff will be cheering and supporting Micky.
Said Donal: “Micky is a great advertisement for energie he is hardworking and 110 percent dedicated, it would be great to see him jn the top 5.”
Micky is also sponsored by national Irish bank and iron tech the suppliers of lifting machinery.
