Aston Villa are trying to lure Shay Given to the Midlands – and away from a possible move to Celtic.
It is now clear that the Lifford keeper can leave Man City this summer.
It’s just a matter of where he will end up, with Gerard Houllier wanting the 35-year-old to move to Villa.
The Donegal man looks set to be one of the more high profile departures from Eastlands this summer.
Roberto Mancini has told Given – with whom he has a good relationship – that he wants him to stay, but cannot guarantee him first team football.
Now Villa has now emerged as a viable destination especially with Brad Friedel out of contract and set to join Tottenham.
Championship side Leicester are also in the running, though that would be an unlikely destination for Given who would prefer to stay in the Premier League or go to Celtic.
Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is said to want Given in his side next season.
If Given does go to Villa he will link up again with fellow Irish international Richard Dunne.
