A local councillor says the response of the PSNI and the Gardai to the search for missing Lifford man David Colhoun has been “questionable.”
Cllr Frank McBrearty told donegaldaily that he was shocked by the lack of action and manpower being put into the search for the missing 22 year old.
He said local people were very annoyed that the PSNI in Strabane, and to a lesser extent the Gardai, were not putting their full resources into helping the Colhoun family.
“We hear that cross-border co-operation between the two forces is at an all-time high but I cannot see that in this case.
“From what I can see there is very little being done to help find this young man – especially on the part of the PSNI.
“I appreciate the Gardai are saying that this is not their jurisdiction but I still do not think enough is being done on this side of the border either,” he said.
Cllr McBrearty revealed he had spent a number of hours at the search yesterday and was shocked by what he saw.
He said the lack of any co-ordinated effort in the search was actually adding to the danger in the area.
“I actually think that people are taking their lives in their hands. This is a very dangerous area and there is no co-ordination or direction.
“Those taking part in the search deserve praise but I do not think it is a co-ordinated search overseen by professional people.
“The last thing I or anybody else wants to see is another tragedy taking place while this search goes on,” he said.
