Beaver scouts from 19th Donegal (Lifford) Scout Group, have won the inaugural Errigal County Beaver Scout Challenge which was held yesterday (SAT) in Buncrana.
The youngest aged group in the scouts, the 6 – 8 year olds, had to undertake a number of challenges during the course of the event before claiming their victory.
The event, which was attended by Beaver Scouts from as far as Killybegs, Castlederg, Carndonagh and Bocan, turned out to be a very successful first venture.
Thanks must go to Buncrana group leader Alison Clarke and her trusty team of volunteers for organising the event.
Group Leader, Joe Boland, said that it was a credit to the Beaver Scout Leaders, Emma McNulty, Lisa McGuire and Christina Foy for the amount of time, effort and commitment they gave to the group and it’s a just reward to their return.
“It was a terrific time out and everyone got on so well. It proved yet again that scouting is a great source of education, adventure and fun for young people,” said scout leader Boland.
The Lifford-based group are going from strength to strength with the Cub Scouts and Scouts having their first overnight camp at the grounds of Lifford Gun Club.
There, they learned how to cook outdoors, build a bivvy (shelter made of available materials), and honed their already considerable scouting skills.
The group would to like to express their thanks and gratitude to the committee of Lifford Gun Club for offering them the use of the excellent facility and look forward to many more camps.
